Our commitments: safety & belonging

Every child has the right to feel safe, respected and heard.

Protecting the welfare and best interests of every child and young person in our care is not simply a legal obligation. It is at the heart of who we are and how we work, in every setting: homes, schools, childcare centres and the community.

Our commitments

Eight commitments guide how we keep children safe and help them belong.

1

Children first

We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people receiving our services above all else.

2

Zero tolerance

We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to child abuse, neglect and exploitation, and take all necessary measures to prevent, identify and respond to any instance of harm.

3

Children's voice

Children have the right to be heard. We create environments where children feel empowered to speak up, ask questions and say no, in ways appropriate to their age, ability and communication needs.

4

Qualified and screened

All staff hold current Blue Cards under Queensland's Working with Children legislation, and our occupational therapists are registered with AHPRA, holding them to a strict code of conduct and ongoing professional standards.

5

Informed and trained

Everyone who works with or on behalf of Dundon OT understands their obligations to protect children and young people, with training and support to fulfil them, including mandatory reporting.

6

Legally compliant

We comply with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures relating to child safety and protection, including the Child Protection Act 1999 (Qld), the Blue Card system and mandatory reporting obligations.

7

Continuously improving

We regularly review and improve our policies, procedures and practices so that the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is always upheld.

8

Shared responsibility

Protecting children is a shared responsibility. We work collaboratively with families, schools, childcare centres and other services so every child's safety is always prioritised.

Raising a concern

If you ever have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a child in our service, please reach out. You will always be taken seriously, and you will never be disadvantaged for speaking up.
